Rides Two Audax events are being held on 15th July, starting from the Otley CC clubhouse at 8:00 (for a 200km ride) or 9:00 (for a 100km ride), organised by Leeds CTC under the CTC West Yorkshire programme of rides. Although on-the-line entries for these rides will be accepted, we cannot guarantee these, as there may not be enough spare brevet cards if lots of people enter on the day. Please enter in advance if you possibly can; full details can be found on the Audax website, where you can also enter online. Follow the 'Otley Audax events' link in the left hand panel for more details and access to route sheets.
The Leeds Cycling Action Group have a ride on Sundays, starting from a selection of points around the city. This includes shorter rides of around 25 to 35 miles on alternate Sundays, organised by CTC member Brian Bell.
Maybe you're relatively new to cycling, or returning after a long break, or simply don't want more than a pleasant social potter? Well, here are two new initiatives for people who want a shorter, perhaps slower ride.
Other events and information Leeds Cycling Consultation Forum The last meeting was on Wednesday 18th April 2012. It was attended by Gary Bartlett, Head of Highways and Transportation for Leeds City Council, who was responding to the points made in the deputation to the Council made in November, and subsequent comments from cyclists. Gary expressed himself keen to promote cycling and make better provision for it, but said it was always a matter of balance with other demands. There was some lively debate, as you may imagine. On a practicasl level, he suggested that the Forum should see the programme for the year which his department works to, and which will be finalised in May, and commented that it would be worth making suggestions for works in October or November, the time of year when the programme was being developed. He also, in response to a question, intended to check to see that money from Section 106 planning agreements was spent, and spent properly. The meetings are open to any cyclist in Leeds, and while they do not replace formal consultation procedures, it's a useful way of hearing about and commenting on developments, as well as finding out what's concerning other cyclists in the area.
Leeds group is registered as an informal CTC group under the aegis of CTC West Yorkshire District Association (hence the title above). Details of CTC West Yorkshire officials can be found in 'Cycle' magazine. < |
